Gabrijel Kolbič, Wine production, six-part relief plastic from clay, year of manufacture 1940, signed and dated.
The dimensions of the individual parts are from 27 cm to 39 cm wide, height approx. 34 cm. The total length of the sculpture (if the individual parts are assembled into one sculpture) is approx. 240 x 34 cm.
The artwork illustrates winemaking from work in the vineyard (taking care of the vine), through harvesting, pressing grapes, cellaring, wine delivery to the last part, when the young masters greet each other "Cheers" (this sculpture has a signature and year of manufacture).
Gabrijel Kolbič is one of the central names in 20th century sculpture in Maribor. After World War II, he was the only academically educated sculptor in Maribor. He initially studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Prague, where he was taught first by Josef Mařatka, a student of Rodin, who passed on to Kolbič knowledge of the art of the great French sculptor, and after his death by Karel Dvořak, under whom he successfully completed his studies. He continued his studies at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts under the sculptor and medallist Otakar Španiel.
