Stupica Gabrijel, Bride
Stupica Gabrijel, Bride, graphic 14/150, year of creation 1982/1983, signed lower right, original frame, dimensions: 62 x 85 (+ frame).
Gabrijel Stupica (1913 - 1990) is considered one of the greatest and (also abroad) most established Slovenian modernist artists. Born in Dražgoše, after finishing grammar school in Ljubljana, he enrolled in painting in Zagreb and lived there for ten years after graduation. In 1946, he moved to Ljubljana, became a full professor of painting at the newly founded art academy, where he remained until his retirement in 1977.
Basically, he used a combination of oil and tempera and other combinations with graphite, collage, sometimes also scraps and remnants of older paintings that he copied, which is why many of his paintings have not been completely preserved.
The figure dominates in his works, the majority are self-portraits and portraits of his bride or Flora.
